The GHG Protocol, also known as the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol), is a standard framework for measuring, managing, and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It was developed by two organizations, namely the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

The GHG Protocol provides detailed guidelines and standards for organizations that want to measure and report their GHG emissions, including emissions of CO2 (carbon dioxide), methane (CH4), and nitrogen dioxide (N2O), which are the main greenhouse gases responsible for climate change.

The GHG protocol divides greenhouse gas emissions into three categories that correspond to the scopes below:

GHG Scope 1 (Direct emissions): This part of the protocol is dedicated to the measurement and reporting of direct greenhouse gas emissions that the organization produces from its own activities and sources.
GHG Scope 2 (Indirect emissions): Contains guidelines for measuring indirect emissions associated with the production of energy consumed by an organization.
GHG Scope 3 (Other indirect emissions): This section deals with indirect emissions that are associated with the organization's activities but are outside its direct control, such as emissions associated with suppliers, products, and travel.

The GHG protocol also defines specific methods and factors for calculating emissions, enabling consistent and reliable measurement of GHG emissions. This standard framework is widely used by organizations, governments, and non-profit organizations around the world to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. It is an important tool for monitoring and improving the environmental performance of organizations and countries.
